Used radiators and cooling partsRadiators, fans, intercoolers

Cooling is the category where the advice matters more than the part: an overheating engine that keeps being driven stops being a cooling job and becomes an engine job, and that is a completely different amount of money.

Do not drive it

If the gauge is climbing, the warning light is on, or there is steam or a sweet smell, stop and let it cool. Every mile driven hot is a mile of the head and gasket being cooked, and a head gasket costs many times what a radiator does.

Losing coolant with no puddle underneath is the one to take most seriously: it usually means the coolant is going somewhere inside the engine rather than onto the road.

What actually fails

Radiators on these vans usually go at the plastic end tanks and around the seams, and a stone through the core from the front is common on the intercooler because it sits ahead of the radiator.

Viscous and electric fans both appear across these four models, and a fan that has stopped working shows up as a van that only overheats in traffic and is perfectly fine on a dual carriageway. Expansion tanks crack around the neck and the level sensor, which loses coolant slowly enough that people top it up for months without questioning it.

Getting the right one

Radiators differ by engine, by air conditioning and by whether the van was built with an automatic gearbox, because the cooler pack changes with each of those. The registration tells us all three at once — which is why we ask for it rather than the model name.

Collect it in Kettering, usually the same day we confirm we have it, or leave the van with us and we will fit it and pressure-test the system afterwards. Stock runs across four to six donor vans at a time, Sprinter, Master, Movano and NV400 only. If a part we sell turns out to be faulty, we replace it.
